Success Stories*
With the concept of the "Footprint," Klüber Lubrication aims to continuously optimize and reduce its own energy and resource consumption. As early as 2018, the company set an ambitious goal to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity consumption to 50% by 2025. However, this target was significantly exceeded as early as 2021, reaching 73%, and further increasing to 76% in 2022. Klüber has now set a new goal to transition entirely to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Another significant achievement is the substantial reduction of CO₂-equivalent emissions in Scope 1 using new solvents in production. While the solvent-based CO₂eq emissions were over 32,500 tons in 2019, they were reduced to just 1,937 tons by 2022. As a result, Klüber met its goal of reducing CO₂ emissions by 75% by 2025 as early as 2022 – achieving this within just three years. Previously used solvents had a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of around 10,000 kilograms of CO₂eq per kilogram, whereas the new solvent reduces this to just 55 kilograms of CO₂eq. This represents a significant contribution to environmental protection.

The concept of the "Handprint" at Klüber Lubrication refers to measures that support the sustainable value creation of its customers. As early as 2011, the company introduced criteria to evaluate product development projects based on sustainability aspects (Step 1). Since 2017, Klüber has further developed these criteria in accordance with the recommendations of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and applied them to its existing product portfolio to measure the contribution of its products to its own and its customers' sustainability goals. The focus is on clear evaluation and measurement methods regarding the impact of products on people and the environment, sustainable production, and resource conservation – in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
This further developed system, the "Sustainability Product Portfolio Segmentation" (SPPS), has since been used for both existing products and new product development. Based on this segmentation, a quantified scorecard (Step 4) has been created and is continuously refined. As a result, numerous sustainable product optimizations (Step 3) have been implemented and can be tracked using clear performance indicators.

Klüber Lubrication is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its products, facilities, and activities while actively contributing to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation. The integrated sustainability system forms the basis for a comprehensive analysis and presentation of environmental impacts and provides solutions for reducing the carbon footprint.
