Smart Factory increases the productive capacity of the MULTIVAC Group

Wolfertschwenden, 22 July 2026 – With its new Factory 2 at the company's headquarters in the Allgäu region, the MULTIVAC Group is setting the benchmark in industrial automation and spare parts logistics. After a construction period of around two years, a new state-of-the-art factory covering a total area of 27,500 square metres has emerged close to the main factory, and this will systematically drive the company's automated manufacturing and spare parts supply into the future. The MULTIVAC Group has invested around 60 million euros in the new building, as well as a further 40 million euros in technology and processing equipment. In the middle of July the new factory was officially inaugurated as part of the Summer Party for the staff at the Allgäu site, featuring the motto "Hightech. Home. Lifeblood.“.
The timetable for the new factory on the site, comprising a manufacturing plant, a Logistics Center and offices, as well as social rooms and a canteen, was very ambitious. After construction work started at the beginning of 2024, the Logistics and Spare Parts Center, covering an area of 9,500 square metres, was already in operation by September 2025. The new Production Hall with an area of around 18,000 square metres followed in February 2026.
“This investment is not only a strategic step in preparation for the future, it is also an affirmation of our commitment to promoting and developing the Allgäu region as a commercial location. Our company has had its roots firmly embedded in the region since its founding, and we continue to see great potential in the Allgäu over the long-term,” says Dr Christian Lau, Director and CTO of the MULTIVAC Group. “We would like to offer our heart-felt thanks to all those involved in the project – our internal teams as well as partners and suppliers, who have contributed with great commitment to successfully turning this huge project into reality.“
Slicing and automation solutions are already among MULTIVAC’s most important growth areas. Positive market trends and rising demand for integrated production line solutions mean that capacity is being further expanded. The new building will provide the necessary space at the main plant to implement existing projects efficiently, meet future customer requirements even more effectively, and sustainably strengthen the company’s leading position in this attractive market segment.
The technology of the future that is already reality today
Automation plays a central role in the new factory: Fully automated process chains control warehousing, the dispatch area and large parts of the manufacturing operation. Driverless transport systems and industrial robots, which serve the CNC milling machines, not only increase production efficiency and precision, but are also intended to counter the increasing shortage of manpower. The new Smart Factory drastically reduces manual intervention, standardises manufacturing processes and creates end-to-end digital networking. The result: Fewer errors, shorter throughput times, and a significantly higher level of transparency in the manufacturing areas.
The heart of the Smart Factory is a concept that is unique throughout the world: the "One-Piece-Flow" system for batch size 1, i.e. for individually manufactured products. The company's in-house developed software assigns a specific container to every generated "blank" that is cut from the raw material, and this container accompanies the entire added value stream. All the movements between locations are scanned and captured in the Extended Warehouse Management System (EWM). This ensures that there is a 100 percent check of all goods movements.
In addition to the manufacturing areas, the new Factory 2 also includes a state-of-the-art Logistics Center, which is much more than just a spare parts warehouse. As a strategic hub, it consolidates the supply of spare parts for MULTIVAC, TVI and potentially also FRITSCH under one roof. Covering an area of 9,500 square metres, it warehouses 50,000 to 60,000 different items – from small parts right up to complex components. Around 10,000 pallet holding areas and 48,000 containers offer sufficient capacity for the further growth of the MULTIVAC Group. Spare parts, which are ordered via the Webshop up to 4 pm, leave the Logistics Center on the same day – a service that is without equal in the sector.
MULTIVAC has also systematically implemented measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the new production site. Ground water cooling, geothermal energy, biomass district heating and the company's own photovoltaic equipment provide a completely climate-neutral energy supply to the new factory.
