MeetMULTIVAC: Materials

Introducing the team at MULTIVAC

24.02.2022

At MULTIVAC, our people share the same vision and values to help process and package what is valuable to your business, but how much do you know about the different areas of our business, and the people who make it all happen?

This year, we’re making business more human and introducing you to some of our hard-working, knowledgeable, employees from the various departments at MULTIVAC UK.

It’s our February installment of MeetMULTIVAC...

Clive Amos, Product Specialist – Materials

Tell us more about your role!

Having been with MULTIVAC UK for nearly 5 and a half years as part of a growing packaging materials team, I manage a portfolio of customers who are all based within the food industry, and help them maintain a good supply of products into their own customer base.

A large part of my role is keeping pace with the latest packaging trends which is an ever-moving topic of conversation. All of our materials are tailored to our packaging equipment, which provides our customers with a one-stop-shop for machinery, materials, spares and service - a unique package I believe!

What does your day to day look like?

Well, I can say this for sure... it never gets boring as the market is very fast-paced!

Typically, a normal day is set into a range of priorities that get managed appropriately. Now that the UK is starting to get back to some normality after the past 2 years, customer visits are starting to become a greater part of my day again – video calls don’t really offer the same customer experience!

Our MULTIVAC Right Pack Consultancy approach means we offer solutions to often challenging applications, which I enjoy managing and resolving!

What is a current problem our customers and industry face that we’re aiming to help fix?

From a packaging perspective, the industry is not in the best shape when it comes to cost, availability, lead times etc. Everyone in the industry is feeling the same pressures, and MULTIVAC has managed what is a very challenging situation well so far.

The impending implementation of the Plastic Tax in the UK, and the changes to the PRN (Packaging Recovery Note) system, will bring challenges that I aim to guide my customers through with as little stress as possible.

I have several live products due to launch imminently into some of the major UK retailers which offer solutions to recyclability, avoiding or reducing Plastic Tax and reducing the impact of the incoming EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) system (January 1st 2023).

What is a current trend in the world of Materials?

The move away from, and the reduction in the use of, plastic materials is always a current trend.

In my opinion, plastic will always have its place due to the benefits it provides such as; shelf-life extension for the packed product, pack integrity, product protection and presentation.

Plastic in general isn’t always the problem (although some types are!). The packaging doesn’t throw itself away, we as humans (wherever in the world) need to take more responsibility.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My main vice is attending gigs of all sizes from large festivals to small halls. The impact of Covid has obviously been tough! Outside of that, I enjoy walking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), holidays to new destinations and gin... I really like gin!

What did you want to be when you grew up when you were younger?

A drummer in a rock band. I have been described as the best air drummer in the South West, especially after a few beers!

Tell us something we don’t know! A surprising or fun fact about you...

I have a weird habit of bumping into celebrities wherever I go.

Stay tuned for next month‘s instalment of MeetMULTIVAC!
