Investing in the Next Generation of Technical Professionals

Learn how MULTIVAC is building a skilled technical workforce through its U.S. Apprenticeship Program—supporting customer success and service excellence.

At MULTIVAC, we recognize a challenge that many in the manufacturing and processing industries are facing: the urgent need for highly skilled technical professionals to sustain operations and support growth. For companies like ours—who provide advanced, highly automated packaging and processing systems—technical service isn’t just a support function. It’s a mission-critical role.

As Matt Malott, President of MULTIVAC, Inc., put it:

“We all recognize the urgent need for highly skilled technical professionals to sustain and grow our critical operations. MULTIVAC took that understanding and turned it into action—developing and making the investment in a structured apprenticeship program that recruits and trains emerging talent to meet the needs of our customers and ultimately the great markets we proudly serve.”

This year, we celebrated the graduation of our first U.S. Apprenticeship class, six individuals who have completed a rigorous two-year, earn-while-you-learn program focused on real-world service readiness. Their training included classroom instruction, lab-based simulations, and hands-on field experience working side-by-side with our seasoned experts.

Why It Matters: The Shrinking Technical Workforce

The national demand for skilled tradespeople is rising, while the supply is shrinking. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, more than half of skilled trade professionals are nearing retirement age, and fewer young people are entering technical fields. High school graduates often feel their only option is a four-year university—despite the fact that many don’t want to sit behind a desk or take on the debt that comes with traditional college pathways.

The result is a widening gap in essential hands-on roles, including those critical to maintaining complex production systems used by food and medical manufacturers.

At MULTIVAC, we see this not as a constraint, but as a call to action.

Our Response: Build, Not Buy

Rather than compete in an already limited labor pool, we made the decision to invest in building our own talent pipeline. Our apprenticeship program is designed for hands-on learners and future-minded individuals who are excited about technology and committed to excellence. We offer mentorship, national certification pathways, and unmatched exposure to advanced automation, robotics, packaging, and processing equipment.

These new graduates are not entry-level employees—they are trained professionals ready to contribute on Day 1.

Delivering on Our Commitment to You

Technical service is one of the top reasons customers choose MULTIVAC. Our machines are engineered for performance, precision, and longevity—but even the best equipment needs support. Whether it’s optimizing a line for higher throughput, fine-tuning complex settings, or troubleshooting components with microsecond timing, our technical team is the front line of your productivity.

We’re not just growing our team—we’re securing the future of world-class technical support for the long haul.

Investing in Reliability

For our customers, this investment means:

  • Faster response times
  • Deeper troubleshooting expertise
  • Reduced downtime
  • Better onboarding and training support
  • Confidence that we are planning ahead to support your success

It also means you have a long-term production partner who understands the demands of your operation—and is taking proactive steps to be there when you need us most.

As we continue to grow our Field Service Team, we remain committed to investing in people who are passionate, capable, and ready to support the industries that keep our world moving.
