Costing 15 million euros, MULTIVAC is investing in a building complex in Buchenau

14/10/2022

New manufacturing site in Buchenau with production hall as well as Development and Application Center

Wolfertschwenden, 14 October 2022 - On 13 October MULTIVAC officially started on the construction of a new building complex in Buchenau (Dautphetal). The company is spending around 15 million euros to create a production site for its flourishing Slicing Business Unit, complete with a new Center of Excellence for development and application technology.

MULTIVAC has been developing and producing high-performance slicers for the food industry worldwide at its Buchenau site since 2017. MULTIVAC's Slicing Business Unit has grown strongly in the last four years. “Since we expect rising demand in the coming years as well, significantly larger premises have now become necessary,” says Tom Stachel, Senior Vice President of the Slicing Business Unit. “In order to be able to meet the expected growth, and at the same time safeguard the company's traditional closeness to its customers, we are also investing in a new Application Center at the Buchenau site for machine demonstrations and product tests.”

The first spadeful of earth was dug on 13 October. The invited guests included Marco Schmidtke. Mayor of Dautphetal, and Dr Tina Christmann-Ayles, Vice President of the Lahn-Dill Chamber of Commerce. Guido Spix, joint Group President of MULTIVAC, was also on site as the representative of the Management Board. “MULTIVAC's Slicing Business Unit has developed very positively in the last four years. We are looking optimistically to the future, and we see ourselves as well equipped with the new site for further development of this part of our business,” says Guido Spix. “The investment is a significant milestone in our growth strategy, and it is a clear recognition by the company's owning families of their long-term commitment to the region.”
A building complex of around 4,700 m2 will be constructed over an area of approx. 10,000 m2 on the "Carlshütte" industrial zone in the Dautphetal district - comprising a production hall, the new Application Center and a warehouse. Sufficient space to be able to concentrate with even greater focus on the development and assembly of high-performance, state-of-the-art slicers for the food industry. Completion is planned for the end of 2023.

Rising demand worldwide for automated processing and packaging solutions from one source

MULTIVAC has been engaged since 2017 in its slicing activities at the Buchenau site with the aim of expanding its product range to include high-performance slicers. “Thanks to our fully automated processing and packaging solutions, we can offer our customers the highest level of added value,” says Tom Stachel. “Our equipment range covers all the stages from product processing right through to packaging. The new building and the expanded production and development capacity offer us the best conditions for continuing to develop the Slicing Business Unit successfully and sustainably.”

MULTIVAC creates new jobs for the region

The new building and expansion of production capacity will also provide new jobs in Buchenau. After the building has been completed, it is expected that up to 150 staff will work in the new modern complex as part of the first stage of expansion. “We want to be an attractive employer in the Marburg-Biedenkopf region, and one that offers its staff the best working conditions,” says the Site Manager, Jochen Ertl. A further increase in the number of staff is planned for the coming years.
