RX Ultimate sets the benchmark for sustainable thermoformed packs

Sustainability thanks to new matrix heating systems

The RX Ultimate is designed for maximum sustainability: Its main features are low consumption of resources, highly efficient drive systems and innovative matrix heating systems, which reduce the material usage during the packaging operation, while at the same time ensuring that the packs are of the highest quality.

Thanks to the integrated pixelHEAT and pixelSEAL technology, the RX Ultimate achieves a new level of precision when running all packaging films. The pixelHEAT matrix heating system allows high-quality thermoformed packs to be produced with up to 50 percent less material, while still retaining the same functionality in terms of mechanical rigidity and shelf life. Precise temperature control ensures that even particularly thin films and mono films can be run very consistently, so that resources and energy are saved. The pixelSEAL contour sealing system, which can be controlled digitally, also uses very precise temperature control for optimum sealing of thermoformed packs, and high-quality seal seams ensure that the packs are hermetically sealed. Thanks to sealing pixels, which can be individually controlled, the heat is distributed in a very targeted way, so that up to 50 percent of the energy is saved, even with short heating-up times. This means that even those mono materials, which are difficult to run, can be sealed hermetically. Any discrepancies in the sealing process can also be detected very accurately, so that this system has its own integrated seal seam monitoring.

Maximum pack security and rapid format change

With its RX Ultimate machine, MULTIVAC will be presenting to the worldwide market for the first time a complete solution that is intelligent and sustainable, and which integrates both heating systems on one thermoforming packaging machine. The combination of pixelHEAT and pixelSEAL makes it possible to convert the machine within seconds from one material to another – and to achieve the optimum pack results from the next machine cycle or the first pack. This is supported by the modular X-tool die systems, which are also designed for rapid format change. Set-up times can be shortened significantly, and this relieves the burden on those companies in particular, which change products and packaging concepts frequently.

Networked production

“Thanks to the combination of a smart machine, smart dies, and clever online monitoring as well as Smart Services for machine optimisation, the RX Ultimate offers our customers a potential never seen before, when it comes to user-friendliness, efficiency, process reliability and output. It combines the strengths of Smart Packaging and Smart Production in one integrated solution,” explains Michael Landerer, Product Manager for Thermoforming Packaging Machines at MULTIVAC. “The machine captures and monitors the central process parameters via a networked multi-sensor system. Temperature, pressure, vacuum, sealing parameters and other variables are continually evaluated and adjusted. This means that fluctuations in the process can be detected at an early stage and then corrected. As a solution, which can be networked throughout, the RX Ultimate is capable of fitting seamlessly into existing production environments. The MULTIVAC Smart Services offer additional functions for machine monitoring, analysis of overall equipment effectiveness, as well as optimisation of settings during running operation.“ 

At the trade fair MULTIVAC will be showing the RX Ultimate in live operation, and this demonstration will include the functioning of the pixelHEAT and pixelSEAL technology, as well as the rapid change of films and dies.
