Future-proof packaging of medical products
Health Packaging: MULTIVAC at COMPAMED (Hall 8a, Stand H01)
07.09.2026
Wolfertschwenden, 7 September 2026 – Exhibiting at this year's Compamed (16-19 November 2026), MULTIVAC will be presenting future-proof solutions with total process reliability for packaging medical products. The focus will be on three exhibits: an application for packaging heart catheters highly efficiently, an interactive line for complex medical items and sensitive combination products, and a handling module for end-of-line use that can be integrated into existing lines. The company has combined its expertise in medical and pharmaceutical packaging solutions under the brand name of MULTIVAC Health Packaging, and it is therefore able to focus its range of equipment and services on the requirements of the health sector in an even more targeted way.
“Packaging solutions for medical and pharmaceutical products must be tailored precisely to the particular product, process and regulatory requirements,” explains Verena Vetter, Corporate Product Manager for Health Packaging at MULTIVAC. “Working in conjunction with our customers, while offering our technical knowledge and many years of practical experience, we develop concepts that meet the customer's individual requirements and reflect the current trends and demands in the sector, such as for example MDR or PPWR.”

Packaging heart catheters efficiently and in compliance with PPWR
Among the exhibits at the trade fair will be the R 245 thermoforming packaging machine, which includes the UDI-compliant direct web printer from Bell-Mark, as well as the integrated seal seam and print image inspection system from MULTIVAC. Thanks to the use of recyclable flexible film for packaging the heart catheters, the solution already meets today's PPWR requirements. The machine in the MULTIVAC Clean Design comprises a range of design features, which make a significant contribution to improved process transparency and reliability, as well as aiding easy cleaning. These include for example see-through safety guards and side cladding, the avoidance of hidden corners and cavities in the design, as well as cable and line routing in closed channels, together with particularly small clearances between sections.
Automatic palletising
MULTIVAC will be presenting an H 300 Cobot handling module for standardised automation tasks, and this module is ideally suited to palletising and other end-of-line tasks. It can be integrated seamlessly into the MULTIVAC Line Control, and it offers batch handling throughout the line, as well as MES linking and CRA compliance – all from one source. The H 300 Cobot therefore represents a cost-effective entry-level module for automated end-of-line solutions, without having to make compromises in terms of safety and efficiency.
Interactive line for challenging packaging processes
A line in the form of an interactive tool will be used to demonstrate the reliable packaging of complex medical items and sensitive combination products. The tool will highlight the wide range of packaging solutions from MULTIVAC in the Health Packaging sector. Various equipment options and innovations will be shown, such as for example the pixelSEAL contour sealing system, which can be controlled digitally to increase the process reliability. It works with highly precise temperature control for optimum sealing of thermoformed packs – and with very even temperature distribution. Thanks to the individually controllable sealing pixels, the heat can be generated with +/-1°C temperature difference, so that even the most complex packaging materials can be run.
PFAS-free coating for more sustainable packaging processes
With the innovative EvoCoating product, MULTIVAC will be showing a PFAS-free coating for heating and sealing plates in thermoforming packaging machines, and this supports medical and pharmaceutical companies in meeting the current and future regulatory requirements. The FDA-approved coating can be used internationally without problems, and it contributes to a more sustainable packaging process. Thanks to lower sealing temperatures, the energy consumption can be reduced, while at the same time the coating is characterised by its high level of resistance to abrasion, scratches and mechanical wear. Compared to simple PTFE coatings, the EvoCoating product lasts two to three times longer, and this therefore reduces the time and costs for servicing, overhauls and spare parts handling. The coating will be used initially for applications with fibre-based materials such as medical paper and Tyvek®.
