MeetMULTIVAC: Training Department

Introducing the team at MULTIVAC

24.10.2023

At MULTIVAC, our people share the same vision and values to help process and package what is valuable to your business, but how much do you know about the different areas of our business, and the people who make it all happen?

This year, we’re making business more human and introducing you to some of our hard-working, knowledgeable, employees from the various departments at MULTIVAC UK.

It’s our October instalment of MeetMULTIVAC...

Paul Wickenden, Technical Training Officer – Training Department

Tell us more about your role!

As the Training Officer for MULTIVAC UK, I teach our range of primary training courses to customers. Each training course can take up to 8 people and lasts anywhere between 1-4 days. I lead customer-oriented training which includes both theory and practical based learning in our Innovation Centre, which is well equipped with a range of our machines. I also teach in-house and Service Technician courses, so I can cover a lot!

What does your day to day look like?

When training courses are running I spend the whole day with the course delegates. We start the morning with a coffee before heading into the Training Centre for the remainder of the day. It’s great to be able to get to know so many people through teaching them, and I’m able to enjoy lunch with them every day too which is an added bonus!

How long have you worked at MULTIVAC? What’s your favourite part of your job?

I have worked for MULTIVAC for a total of 35 years now and I have always been Training Officer, and even after this time I’m still learning more every day. My favourite part about working at MULTIVAC is the fact that we always work together as one team to meet our customers needs.

What is a current problem our customers are facing that you are aiming to fix?

Unfortunately, a large portion of our customers struggle with a high turnover of staff in their production teams, which results in a skill level problem. My aim is to teach members of their team in an informative and exciting way to allow them to progress in their role and, hopefully, remain there.

What are you generally working on at the moment?

It is an exciting time for the MUUK Training Centre! Last month at our in-house event, our board of directors visited and presented us with a certificate which recognises us globally as a MULTIVAC accredited Training Centre. This has also come with new branding for all MULTIVAC Training Centres, which we are currently working on launching in the new year. As we are nearing the end of this year, the time has also come to work on the 2024 training calendar and brochure, so that we can make sure our customers know what opportunities they have for next year.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I spend a lot of time with my 3 year old grandson (who is also my mini-me!) who loves anything with an internal combustion engine, alongside that I enjoy cycling, snooker and, when the weather allows it, gardening.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Growing up I always knew I wanted to be an engineer of some sort, I have always loved making and repairing anything I can.

Tell us something we don’t know! A surprising or fun fact about you...

When I was at school I was every teachers worst nightmare, I think they would all be surprised to learn that I have ended up as a teacher myself!

Stay tuned for next month‘s instalment of MeetMULTIVAC!
